50 an hour Communication Clerk The City of Wilmington, Ohio, is seeking full-time Communication Clerks within the Wilmington Police Department.
The Communication Clerk performs a variety of telephone, dispatch, public information, and clerical duties in support of the City's Police Department's Communications Center and operates as a standalone Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).
This position is subject to oversight and certification by the Civil Service Commission.
Commission rules mandate that applicants must first pass a written examination with a minimum score of 70% to progress in the hiring process.
Scores from written exams and interviews are weighted evenly and candidates with combined scores of 70% or higher will be certified as eligible by the Civil Service Commission and placed on the Eligibility List for one (1) year.
The Commission shall grant an additional military service credit of 20% upon submission for qualifying DD214.
Upon certification of eligibility, candidates are ranked by combined score and an offer of employment will first be extended to the candidate with the highest score.

org/government/boards-commissions/civil-service/ Essential Job Functions Answers emergency and non-emergency calls from the public utilizing a variety of communications devices such as a telephone and a radio; gathers critical information, utilizes Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) to promptly and accurately record information from calls and dispatch the appropriate resources such as police, fire, and/or other emergency personnel; analyzes conflicting and/or limited information to direct first responders to the scene; coordinates mutual aid as needed; acts as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), provides instructions prior to the arrival of emergency personnel to assist caller with medical care and mental distress; maintains radio log; prepares & types reports and correspondence; maintains proper files for correspondence and reports.
Manages communications of emergency personnel and takes protective measures to preserve the life and safety of police, fire, and/or other emergency personnel responding to incidents Operates Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) terminal receiving & transmitting messages; interprets messages received & routes the information to the appropriate person.
Enters and vacates court orders such as warrants and protection orders.
Maintain records in ordinance with the law.
Accepts bonds and ticket payments after court hours.
Maintains all necessary records and files.
Attends meetings and serves on committees, as directed; attends training and seminars, as directed.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Two (2) years of experience involving substantial public contact and office clerical duties preferred Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment Flexible schedule availability to include evenings, weekends, and holidays Licensure and Certification Requirements Valid State of Ohio driver's license with satisfactory driving record Successful completion of APCO Basic Training 12-week course Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) State of Ohio Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) certification Applicants may be considered without certifications but would be required to obtain the certification within a specified period.
The starting base salary will be consistent with the City's approved pay plan and collective bargaining agreement; this position's starting salary is $23.
00 per hour during the twelve-month probationary period, and $23.
75 once the probationary period has ended.
This position has defined pay increases annually thereafter according to the collective bargaining agreement; lateral transfers available.
